Seven days of wind and gusts in knots, whether it's blowing offshore where you fish, and how much the models agree — free, no login.
Right now it's 7 kt E, gusting 6 kt. No big change in the next 24 hours.
Computed at -32.715, 152.160 — the model grid cell sits 7.7 km away (reliability: high).
Wind matters differently depending on what you launch. These bands are Fishare's own wind ramp applied per boat class — guidance to think with, not a clearance to go.
| Boat | Comfortable up to | Right now (7 kt) |
|---|---|---|
| Kayak / small tinny (under 4 m) | up to 11 kt | Conditions look manageable |
| Trailer boat (4–6 m) | up to 15 kt | Conditions look manageable |
| Offshore boat (6 m+) | up to 20 kt | Conditions look manageable |
E is onshore at Port Stephens — blowing in off the water, so expect chop building against the shore.
The coast here faces about E (90°), so an onshore wind arrives from that side and an offshore wind from the opposite side. Winds within about 55° of straight on are called; anything more oblique we report as cross-shore rather than guess.
Wind decides whether you can go; water temperature decides what is worth going for — mahi, kings and tuna hold on the warm edges, not the calendar. This is an open-ocean model value at this point: an estuary or a shallow bay reads warmer or cooler.
You can see the warm and cold water here. What you cannot see is where the edge sits today, which way it is tracking, or which of your spots sits on it — Fishare finds the breaks automatically and scores every spot against them.
Six global weather models — ECMWF, GFS, ICON, GEM, Météo-France and UKMO — are run for this point and combined into one consensus per hour, with outliers rejected. The "models agree" figure is how many of the six stayed close over the next 24 hours; when they disagree, treat the numbers as softer.
What this does not capture: local topographic funnelling around headlands and through heads, sea-breeze timing on a specific beach, gusts under squalls and thunderstorms, or the state of a bar at the moment you reach it. Swell figures are open-ocean model values, not the wave you meet at the entrance.
