Catch and Session Data: When you log catches or fishing sessions, we store information you provide including species, location, date, time, photos, and notes. Location data is only collected when you choose to log a spot or share a catch.
Device and Usage Data: We automatically collect certain information when you access the Service, including browser type, device type, IP address, pages visited, and referring URLs. This data is used for analytics and improving the Service.
Weather and Environmental Data: We fetch weather, tide, swell, and sea surface temperature data from third-party APIs (Open-Meteo, Bureau of Meteorology) based on the fishing location you select. This data is not personally identifiable.
Photos: If you upload catch photos, these are stored in our cloud infrastructure. Photos may contain metadata (EXIF data) including GPS coordinates — we strip GPS metadata from photos before displaying them publicly.

We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Create and manage your account
- Display your catches on the feed and leaderboards (based on your privacy settings)
- Generate fishing analytics, bite predictions, and personalised recommendations

4. AI-Powered Features
Fishare uses AI (powered by Anthropic's Claude) to provide fishing window analysis, species identification, and personalised recommendations. When you use these features, relevant fishing data (weather conditions, tides, species in season) is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. No personally identifiable information is included in AI requests.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your data in the following circumstances:
- Public catches: When you share a catch on the feed, your display name, catch details, and approximate location are visible to other users. You control whether to share exact or approximate locations.
- Service providers: We use third-party services including Supabase (database and authentication), Vercel (hosting), and Anthropic (AI analysis). These providers process data on our behalf under their respective privacy policies.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, regulation, or legal process.
6. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on servers operated by Supabase (hosted on AWS). We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS), row-level security policies on our database, and secure authentication with PKCE.
While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete your account and associated data by contacting us
- Export your catch and session data
- Opt out of newsletters and non-essential notifications at any time

Fishare uses browser local storage to save your preferences (units, default location, theme) and authentication session tokens. We do not use third-party tracking cookies. Analytics are collected via server-side logging only.

Fishare is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites (e.g., fishing regulations, tackle shops). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites.
11. International Users
Fishare is operated from Australia. If you access the Service from outside Australia, your information may be transferred to and processed in Australia or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.
