Fishare draws every satellite sea-surface temperature pass of the last 72 hours — checked for new passes every hour, cloud left as holes — and finds and labels the temperature break on each one, for US$8.99/mo · US$79/yr and no per-region licence. RipCharts sells the ocean one region at a time: US$169/yr per region on Premium, US$99/yr per region on Standard, single-user, annual only. Trial: 7-day free trial, no card required to start. Here is what you keep, what you give up, and the four steps.

What you keep

What changes: the price

RipCharts lists 16 regions on its registration page, each a separate subscription at the same price — US$99/yr per region on Standard (web map only, no mobile app) or US$169/yr per region on Premium. Two Premium regions are US$338 a year for one user. Fishare Pro is US$8.99/mo · US$79/yr across every covered region — the daily field across AU East Coast, AU West Coast, New Zealand, US East + Gulf, US West Coast, Hawaii, Baja & Sea of Cortez, South Australia & West Vic, Top End & Gulf of Carpentaria, Caribbean & southern Gulf, Eastern Tropical Pacific, South-west Pacific, Canadian Maritimes, UK & Ireland and Japan & Kuroshio; per-pass SST across all 15 regions — and the forecast app around it is free.

The full RipCharts vs Fishare comparison carries the verified pricing and a per-region cost calculator.

Four steps

  1. Open the SST layer. On the map, turn on SST. The first time, a card asks whether you already read SST charts.
  2. Set it up. One tap: the classic colour ramp, your temperature unit, and PASSES open. Every satellite overpass of the last three days is listed newest first with its coverage; tap one and it is drawn as the satellite saw it.
  3. Bring your waypoints. Open the marks panel and PASTE your waypoint export, or import the GPX. Each becomes a GO TO target.
  4. Read what RipCharts cannot show. The daily gap-filled field with the break drawn and labelled in °C, temperature at 25/50/75/100/150/200 m, the per-species habitat score, and playback of where the break has been.

14 days instead of 7 when you start from this guide; no card to start. Or open the SST map first and look around — the card in the SST dock sets the map up the way you are used to.

What you give up

If that is the reason you fish, keep RipCharts. A serious crew can run both.

Frequently asked

Do I get the same satellite passes on Fishare as on RipCharts?

The same kind of data: polar-orbiting satellite SST passes, each drawn as the satellite saw it rather than smoothed into a daily field. Fishare takes every overpass of the polar-orbiting satellites in NOAA’s own ACSPO L3U stream (VIIRS and AVHRR) across all 15 regions. Each pass is drawn as the satellite saw it at 0.02°, clouds left as holes, checked for new passes every hour, kept for 72 hours on the strip and 30 days in history, with 24-hour and 72-hour composites; beside them on the same strip, hourly geostationary frames from Himawari-9 AHI, GOES-19 ABI, GOES-18 ABI and Meteosat-10 SEVIRI in every one of the 15 regions. Both forecast SST five days ahead, and both carry a surface salinity field — Fishare's is a model, and the map says so.

How much does switching save?

RipCharts sells each region separately: US$99/yr per region on Standard (web only) or US$169/yr per region on Premium, single-user, annual only, across the 16 regions on its registration page. Fishare Pro is US$8.99/mo · US$79/yr for every covered region and every layer. Trial: 7-day free trial, no card required to start. Fish two RipCharts regions on Premium and you are already paying more than four times Fishare's annual price.

Can I bring my waypoints?

Yes. Open the marks panel on the map and paste your waypoint export — one waypoint per line with a name and a latitude/longitude in any common format — or import a GPX file. Every mark becomes a GO TO target with bearing, distance and ETA, and marks stay on your device; they are never uploaded.

Will the map look like what I am used to?

Tap "Set it up" on the "Read SST charts already?" card the first time you open the SST layer: it switches the colour ramp to the classic spectral palette, sets °F if you fish the US, and opens the pass timeline. RAMP, UNIT and RANGE stay beside the depth ladder, so you can change any of them later.

What do I give up?

The Android app, for now. RipCharts' Android app is in public release while Fishare's is in testing. Salinity, the 5-day SST forecast and imagery history all left this list on 30 September 2026: Fishare models surface salinity daily, forecasts five days, and keeps 30 days of passes and daily composites per region, filling since October 2026. If Android is your edge, keep RipCharts for now — the comparison page says so plainly.

RipCharts pricing and tiers from RipCharts' own registration page, verified 2026-10-19. Fishare's pass sources, sensors and cadence are read from the bakes that produce them, sources as switched 2026-10-07 (per-pass SST from NOAA’s own ACSPO L3U stream; docs/product/ripcharts-parity-plan.md). Verify current pricing before subscribing.
