Why these rules exist

Atlantic / GA state waters. Federal South Atlantic season differs and is highly volatile (set annually; 2026 federal recreational harvest closed pending NOAA). GA STATE waters (0-3 nm): All year, limit 2, 20" TL minimum. The dominant South Atlantic FEDERAL fishery (3-200 nm) is SAFMC/NOAA-managed with an annually-set, frequently closed or very short recreational season (federal harvest closed as of mid-2026) — see https://safmc.net/species/snapper-red/
