Manly Beach is one of Sydney's iconic surf beaches — 1.5 km of open ocean sand backed by Norfolk Island pines, bookended by North Head to the north and Shelly Beach to the south. The beach itself produces consistent bream, tailor, flathead and salmon, particularly in the sand gutters near the rocks at each end. The headland walks at North Head, Fairy Bower and Shelly Beach give access to some of Sydney's best land-based fishing for snapper, trevally, kingfish and bonito on the eastern-facing bomboras.
