Bribie Island sits at the northern end of Pumicestone Passage — a 40 km tidal channel that separates the island from the mainland. The Passage is one of the most productive inshore fisheries in south-east Queensland: flathead, whiting and bream are taken from the sandy banks on every run-out tide, and tailor and trevally sweep through the channel on the tide changes. The surf beach on the eastern side produces dart and whiting, and the northern tip (Skirmish Point) is a reliable tailor and trevally spot.
